Foods for Staying Cool in Summer

Did you know certain foods cool and others heat your body? And we’re not talking about foods that you keep in the freezer or cook in the oven.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at foods for the energy it generates in the body, one of these features being their cooling or heating properties to make sure you are maintaining the proper body temperature through what you eat. The goal to keep your yin and yang balanced.

Below is a list of cooling and heating foods to be aware of. As we welcome summer, keep these cooling foods at the top of your grocery list!

Cooling Foods:

  • Cucumber

  • Mint

  • Watermelon

  • Radish

  • Yogurt

Warming Foods:

  • Ginger

  • Cinnamon

  • Cumin

  • Black pepper
